Choma, Andreiv

Andreiv Choma is a descendant of Ukrainians who emigrated to Brazil in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Curitiba, Brazil, he grew up in Mallet, where he actively participated in "Spomen" — a Ukrainian folk group — as a dancer, director, and choreographer. He holds a law degree from the State University of Ponta Grossa and currently works at the Labor Court in Curitiba.
Andreiv has served as president of the Ukrainian Youth Association of Brazil and is currently vice-president of the Ukrainian Society of Brazil. He is also a dancer and cultural director of the "Barvinok" Ukrainian Folk Group in Curitiba. From 2013 to 2015, he was a master's student in the Ukrainian Folklore program at the University of Alberta.
He is co-author of the book "Ucrânias do Brasil" (Ukraines of Brazil - 2021) and the books "Brasil-Ucrânia: língua, cultura e identidade" (Brazil-Ukraine: language, culture and identity - 2013) and "130 anos da imigração ucraniana para o Brasil." (130 years of Ukrainian immigration in Brazil - 2024). Over the years he has dedicated himself to research on the folklore and history of Ukrainians in Brazil, as well as actively participating in the work developed by the community
