        General note

Apart from the parental organization in Alberta (APUE), the two other prairie provinces also have umbrella provincial parental associations: Saskatchewan PUE (SPUE) and Manitoba PUE (MPUE). Each association:

        • coordinates publicity, recruitment and fund-raising campaigns
        • attempts to meet with its respective minister of education at least once a year to discuss issues pertinent to Ukrainian bilingual education in this province
        • participates in + plans special events (concerts, holiday celebrations, excursions etc.)
        • sponsors conferences related to second language education

Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education (MPUE)

Manitoba was Canada’s second province to introduce the Ukrainian Bilingual Program. In September 1979, Manitoba’s first pilot classes in the UBP were started. Similarly to APUE, Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education (MPUE) acts as a province-wide organization for parents, who have children in the English-Ukrainian Bilingual Program. Their aim is to enhance the Ukrainian language and culture through the promotion of Ukrainian Education in the Province of Manitoba.
