Kule Folklore Centre Ukrainian Christmas celebration

The collection consists of photographs of the event organized by the KuFC to celebrate Ukrainian Christmas in January 2019. The event was held at the Student Lounge at the Arts & Convocation Hall, University of Alberta, and was well attended by people from MLCS, Arts Centres and Institutes, and Ukrainian Canadian community. Traditional Ukrainian Christmas dishes were served and carols were sung by the participants.

Natalie Kononenko Central Ukraine fieldwork collection

The collection consists of fieldwork materials collected by Natalie Kononeko during her trips to numerous villages in Central Ukraine in 2001-2005. Interviews cover a wide range of folklore topics including ritual and belief, births, weddings, funerals, songs and stories, and more.

Paska workshop documentation project

Paska Workshop Documentation Project was a project by Natalie Kononenko that aimed to document a workshop conducted by Nadia Cyncar, a community leader, at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of St. George. Attendees learned about Easter traditions, as well as how to bake paska (Easter bread), how to decorate it, symbolism of decorations, etc.

The cooking was done by Joyce Sirski-Howell. The collection consists of a video recording (raw footage), audio recording and photographs of the workshop. The team who documented the event consisted of: Natalie Kononenko, Maryna Hrymych, Svitlana Kukharenko, Maryna Chernyavska and Peter Holloway.
