"Сьогодні був дивовижний випадок.
Під вечір ми заглохли, не доїхавши до Калуша.
Водій намагався дати раду двигунові.
Йдуть жінка з чоловіком.
Привіталися. Розговорилися. Чоловік запропонував допомогти, бо теж водій. Ми розповіли, що
веземо на поселення сім'ю з Харкова.
Жінка пішла. Ми у машині. Водій з тим чоловіком чинять мотор.
Обережний стук у скло. Дивлюся, а то та жінка, що йшла. Принесла у подолку пиріжків. Ще теплі. З
яблуками. Каже, що мама якраз спекла.
Ми подякували, а вона просить не зачиняти двері. За нею ще сусідка. Принесла хлібину
домашнього хліба і півлітровмй слоїк з тушкованкою.
Щоби довго вам не читати: поки лагодили мотор, то набралося і пиріжків, 3 півлітрові і 1 літровий
слоїки з тушкованками, літровий слоїк смальцю, грудка смальцю у пакеті і така ж грудка шкварків,
дволітровий слоїк зі шматками сала, слоїки з вудженими закрутками (шматок підчеревини, шматок
сала, шматок ковбаси), кульок цукру, без кінця запитували чи треба бараболь, яблука. Навіть
сушениць піднесли.
Наші люди - найкращі!"

"Something extraordinary happened today. We were on our way to Kalush when in the evening the car broke down. The driver went to try and fix the engine. A woman and a man walked past. We said hi to each other and stood chatting for a bit. The man offered to help with the car. We told them that we’re helping a family from Kharkiv to relocate. The woman left and we stayed in the car while the driver and the man were mending the engine.
There was a gentle knock on the window – the woman returned and brought with her a bunch of pyrizhky, pastries with apple stuffing. The pastries were still warm. She said that her mom just baked these.
We thanked the woman, but she told us to leave the car door open. Soon her neighbor showed up – she brought a loaf of home-baked bread and a half liter jar of stewed meat.
Long story short, in the time it took to fix the engine, we got a bunch of pastries, countless jars of stewed meats, salo [pork lard], and sausage, a ball of pork lard in a bag and a load of pork rinds, a bag of sugar, and countless questions whether we’d like some potatoes and apples. We even got some dried fruit. Ukrainian people are the best!"
